Uniform
The uniform is to be worn correctly to and from school as well as at school and other occasions. We welcome the co-operation of all parents in ensuring that the uniform is worn correctly with the strict application of the school’s dress code relating to jewellery, cosmetics, hair and personal appearance.
In General
Students are expected to:
- Tuck shirts in (as appropriate)
- Wear uniform socks pulled up
- Keep their uniform/clothing clean and in good repair
- Clean their shoes and fully name each clothing article.

Uniform for Year 1-8 Students
Choose from the following items: Some items are available from NZ Uniforms.
- Rugby Knit Navy Polo Shirt, (compulsory) with collar, short sleeved, with Hurunui College logo (purchased at NZ Uniforms)
- Jersey/sweatshirt/polar fleece/vest – plain navy blue
- Pants/leggings/shorts/culotte – plain navy blue (without leg zips and or coloured labels or logos)
- Skivvy/long sleeve polyprop/merino thermal – plain navy blue (can be worn under rugby knit polo shirt)
Other Options
- Tartan Culottes (purchased from NZ Uniforms)
- Softshell Jacket – plain navy blue with Hurunui College logo (purchased from NZ Uniforms)
- Navy Polar Fleece with Hurunui College logo (purchased from NZ Uniforms)
Footwear
- Shoes – suitable, practical, casual school footwear or sandals
Note: All students working in the Technology classrooms and Science labs must wear closed in footwear for health and safety
reasons
- Socks – white or navy, or navy tights
Sunhats
- Hats are compulsory for Year 1-8 during Term 1 and Term 4
- Navy, wide-brimmed or Hurunui College monogrammed bucket style or Hurunui College monogrammed cap (available from the school office).
Scarves and Hats (Winter)
- Plain navy blue beanie and scarf (beanies and scarves are available from the school office). Outdoor wear only.
Physical Education/Sports Uniforms – Year 7-8 only
- PE shirt – monogrammed with the Hurunui College logo – compulsory (only available for purchase from NZ Uniforms)
- Navy shorts or navy or black exercise pants
- White sport socks
- Non-marking sports shoes.
Uniform for Year 9-13 Students
Choose from the following items, available from NZ Uniforms.
- Blue Pinstripe ‘Ambassador’ Blouse/Shirt (short sleeve / ¾ sleeve / long sleeve)
- Navy School Shorts – chino/tailored style
- Navy Long Pants – chino/tailored style
- Navy Skirt, pleated front
- Navy Cardigan, with Hurunui College logo
- Navy Jersey, with Hurunui College logo
- Navy Polar Fleece, with Hurunui College logo
- Navy or white ankle or navy ¾ socks or navy tights
- Navy Soft Shell Jacket, with Hurunui College logo
Optional items
- Red Tie Year 11-13 only with Hurunui College logo
Footwear
- Tidy, practical black lace up or slip on school shoes with heels no higher than 4cm/40mm
- Brown or black leather school sandals with acceptable support
- Birkenstocks (Term 1 & 4 only)
Note: all students working in the Technology classes must wear closed in shoes for Health and Safety reasons
Sun Hats
- The wearing of sun hats (plain navy) outside during Terms 1 and 4 is strongly advised.
- Plain navy wide-brimmed or Hurunui College monogrammed bucket style or Hurunui College monogrammed cap (available from the school office)

Personal Grooming
Hair
- All students must keep their hair clean and tidily groomed. Hair should not be dyed any unnatural colour and no cosmetic hair permitted. Boys must be clean shaven.
- Hair ties or bands – plain navy or red.
- Hair to be tied up for technology and science classes for safety reasons
Makeup
- Any makeup and nail polish should be subtle and should not dominate or distract from the overall appearance of the school uniform.
Jewellery
- Plain gold or silver studs may be worn in the ears, and students may choose to wear a bracelet and a necklace, as long as they are not visible, and can be removed in activities where it could be a safety hazard. No rings to be worn. A watch may be worn.
